Polony is, quite literally, bum.
No, I don’t mean figuratively. I know the difference. I mean literally.
Polony is made mainly from the anus, lips and genitalia of dead animals. Depending on the quality, sometimes it’s more lips than nutsack, or more anus or…well, that sort of thing. you get the picture.
OK, I’m being unfair. Let me not create the impression of an elitist bourgeoisie sympathiser, out of touch with the average processed-meat-eating South African.
I have nothing against polony and the good people who eat it (unlike some other bloggers who have explicitly stated that they can never be friends with people who like polony).
I am not a polonialist. Some of my best friends eat polony.
In fact, I was out the other day with one of my polony-eating friends, you know, shopping for polony, as one does. So there we were, discussing the relative merits of pre-packed polony, when I spotted something…

Chris Roper’s post earlier this week got me to pay more attention to what goes into the stuff that goes into my stomach, so as of late I’ve been taking note of food labels.

Yesterday, while enjoying the culinary enchantment that is maize heated to the point of explosion with the magic heat box, which zaps things with short waves of radiation, I decided it needed some extra flavour.
Enter the popcorn flavouring, with this highly descriptive label:

So there you have it. Butter flavoured popcorn sprinkles contains, ‘100% pure popcorn sprinkles”
What a relief to know.
